FINNISH FABRICS... SUOMALAISIA KANKAITA...

Where ever I travel I like to buy fabrics or prints. While in Finland during May, I found new curtain fabrics. Two different fabrics printed from the paintings of the famous Finnish painter Albert Edelfelt has been taken to the Vallila collection. Vallilla is specialized in curtain fabrics and they often have big prints.... I bought both new prints, one presents kids playing by the sea in the 18th century and the other one is an image of the Luxemburg park in Paris in the end of 18th century when Edefelt spent some time painting in Paris. I just love fabrics... You can do so many things with them...

Missä tahansa matkustelen, ostelen aina kankaita tai printtejä. Toukokuussa Suomessa ollessani löysin Vallilan uudesta valikoimasta Albert Edelfeltin maalamista tauluista painettuja verhokankaita...
Vallilan kokoelmissa on usein suurikokoisia printtejä.

For my to fabrics I needed wooden frames... These ones has been in the attic who know how long before I found them. I had to treat them to make sure that they don't have any wood worm or any other wood eating insects...

Kankaille tarvitsin puiset raamit...

The image of the Luxenburg Park goes well with this revamped furniture...

Kuva Luxemburgin puistosta sopii hyvin tänä patinoidun kaapiston kanssa...

These prints are from the Marimekko Fabric Collection. I made these frame few years ago when we were living in Andorra... Now they bring colour to the staircase that goes up from the back of the kitchen...

Kaikille tuttu Marimekon unikko printti.

NEW MAJOR... UUSI KYLÄN PORMESTARI...

The provence of Dordogne have a tradition to plant huge pole next to the municipality office to mark the change of the major and the municipality counsels... So 10 days ago we have the opportunity to celebrate this kind of happening in our village... The people living in the Montagnac La Crempse village brought different sizes of French flags that were attached to the tall pole made of a pine tree...

Dordognen läänin traditioon kuuluu nostaa pystyyn korkea männystä tehty salko joka on koristeltu Ranskanlipuilla aina kun uusi kylän pormestari on valittu... 10 päivää sitten meillä oli mahdollisuus osallistua kylämme Montagnac La Crempsen juhlatilaisuuteen... kylän asukkaa toivat mukaan erikokoisia Ranskanlippuja, jotka kiinnitettiin korkeasta männystä tehtyyn salkoon...

After all the flags were attached to the pine pole, it was lifted up and planted in to the ready made deep hole...

Our new major, a friend of us making a short speech and thanking the previous major for his good work... This is also a celebration for the new elected municipality delegates...

And what else? Of course then it's time for the aperitif...

Ja mitä muuta? No tietenkin sen jälkeen oli aperitiivin vuoro...

THE STONE WALL... KIVIMUURI...

Since last summer we have been renovating the old stone walls... This spring it was the turn of the big arch to be renovated... It used to be the main entrance to the courtyard long time ago, before the road was built to the other side of the property... Along this wall was the original route from Montagnac village to the Villablard that dates from 11th century...

Viime kesänä alkoi kivimuurien entisöinti... Tänä keväänä oli suuren kaariportin vuoro... Tämä portti toimi alkujaan pääsisäänkäyntinä sisäpihaan, ennenkuin tilan toiselle puolelle rakennettiin tie... tämä kivisen muurin reunalla kulki ensimmäinen tie Montagnacin kylästä Villablerdiin ja se on alkuperäisin jo 1100 -luvulta...

In 1999 the big storm took down a very old linden tree in the middle of the yard... The tree felt on the side of the arch damaging the wall on the side of the arch... Then the crack it was repaired just with some cement and the wall stayed skew...On the bottom part of the arch some of the bigger stones were damage by the time...

Gerald numbered all the big stones in the arch and built a wooden platform to hold the arch, before taking loose any big stones...

Gerald numeroi kaikki suuret kivet kaariholvissa ja kaaren alaosaa tuettiin puusta rakennetulla kaarituella ennen kuin suuria kiviä otettiin irti kaariportista...

After the arch stones were taken down one by one, they were placed on the ground in the numbered order... Now it was the turn to take down the part of the wall that was skew...

Left on the ground the arch stones... And in the front of the tractor the part of the wall that was rebuilt straight...

Vasemmalla maassa kaariholven kivet...

The mason know what to do... Here he is placing the "key" stone that holds the arch...

On the top of the arch the mason built a "genouise" with roof tiles...

Kaaren päälle muurataan kattotiilistä genoise niminen osa...

The renovated arch...

Entisöity kaariportti...

The hundreds years old wall was hollow in this part and it has to be demolished before renovating the whole long wall... Gerald found snakes nests in it with eggs, and ideal warm place for the snake aggs to hatch...

The wall was built so long time ago that the only building material was sand and clay...

Big wall, big tools...

Valtava muuri, valtavat työkalut...

Renovated stone wall...

Entisöity kivimuuri...

On the top of the wall the mason enforced the wall with metal pieces and concrete...

Muurin pääliosa vahvistettiin metallilla ja betonilla...

The "genoise is the part which is made by roof tiles between the wall and the top of the wall...

And the work carries on... Photo of this morning...

Ja työt jatkuu... Kuva otettu tänään aamulla...

MANDELA'S GARDEN... MANDELAN PUUTARHA

This is a space in our living room. The old stone wash basin carved in to the stone was hidden behind a brick wall... Now it has souvenirs from Africa mixed with Finnish Alvar Aalto's designs...

We lived in South Africa for ten years and lived through all the change to new era in SA, so Mandela has been important for us all and he has a special place in our hearts... I planted a small garden for him in the Finnish Iittala candle holders made of glass...

Asuimme 10 vuotta Etelä-Afrikassa ja elimme läpi kaiken sen muutoksen mitä Mandela toi tullessaan, joten Mandelalla on oma paikka sydämissämme... Istutin Iittalan tuikkuihin puutarhan Mandelalle...

WINE CELLAR... VIINIKELLARI....

The old traditional Finnish rug takes you to the wine cellar...

Räsymaton tie sinut viinikellariin vie...

After coming back from South Africa in middle of March, the tiny wine cellar had been insulated
and the walls were ready to be painted. It took me only few hours to finish the walls and then we had to decide what kind of shelves we will put in to the cellar. We wanted something that we could recycle and after looking all the options Gerald has an idea to use. The wood from the old wine vats and the clay bricks from the chimney...

A rustic look but recycling worked...

Maalaismainen tunnelma, mutta kierrätys kannatti...

UPSTAIRS… YLÄKERTA…

Upstairs we an open space…The view towards the front yard…

Yläkerrassa meillä on avoin tila ja josta näkymä etupihalle…

Old bench and in the frames some tresors found in the attic…

Vanha penkki ja raameissa ullakolta löydettyjä aarteita…

The long corridor that takes you toward to the Moomin room and in between the purple bedroom and the small bedroom…

Pitkä käytävä, jonka toisessa päässä Muumihuone ja välissä liila ja pieni makuuhuone…

This area is full open now. It use to be a bedroom but part of it was demolished same time than the massive chimney… So now it has an old looking new staircase that goes up to the top bedroom…

This space was a tiny narrow room before the old staircase was demolished and now it's a bridge between the staircase and the second floor… Tintin is a sticker walking on a radiator… The big african statue stands in the old wardrobe of the bedroom…

Tarra Tintti kävelee lämpöpatterilla…Afrikkalainen veistos on vanhassa makuuhuoneen vaatekaapissa…
