JUNGLE JANE... VIIDAKKO JANE...

I know looks lovely and green, but behind there are few old things... Totally hidden...

Tiedän, että tämä näyttää kauniilta, mutta niiden takana on jotain vanhaa... Kokonaan piilossa...

...And this one, a lovely walnut tree only problem is that it is growing through the roof where the old bread ovens are...

...Ja tämä, ihana saksanpahkinäpuu, ongelma on vain siinä, että se kasvaa katon läpi rakennuksessa, jossa  on kaksi vanhaa leipäuunia...

This is the building where the two old wood heated bread ovens are in the front, one use to have a chimney but it has collapsed by time and nobody care about it... At the back use to be a small closed garden for Peacocks and Pheasants that they kept here long time ago in those glorious days, when the farm had it's best days... That was somewhere in the beginning of the 1900... 

Tässä rakennus, jossa on ne kaksi vanhaa puulla lämmitettävää leipäuunia etupuolella ja joista toisella uunilla on ollut piippu, joka on romahtanut alas, koska kukaan ei enää välittänyt niistä... Rakennuksen takana oli lintuhäkkejä, joihin suljettiin yöksi Riikinkukot ja Fasaanit, niitä pidettiin täällä monta vuotta sitten kun koko tila eli parhainta kukoistustaan...Se oli joskus 1900-luvun alussa...

At the back of the building only a collapsed wall tells you the sad story of "no care", the trees and other plants have taken over and damaged the hundreds of years old stone wall so badly that it needs a total rebuilding to get it back as it was...

Rakenuksen takaosassa vanha kiviseinä kertoo tarinaa " unohdetusta ajasta", jolloin kukaan ei välittänyt...Puut ja muut kasvit saivat ylivallan ja vahingoittivat satoja vuosia vanhaa kiviseinää, joka nyt tarvii täydellisen uudellen rakentamisen...

Amanda and I decided to cut first most of the over grown Ivy and large branches that were hanging on the walls and then we got at the back to the building where they had kept the big birds in the cages, all those big cages had collapsed and here you can see Amanda picking up old roof tiles... The supporting beams were all rotten and the middle section wall was just hanging in the air just attached by one corner... I am standing by the pillar that ones was holding the two entrance gates to the bird cages... Before we carry further Gerald needs to come and cut some of the trees first...

Amanda ja minä päätimme ensiksi leikata ylikasvaneen Muraatin ja kaikki oksat jotka olivat kasvaneet seinien yli ja vasta sitten pääsimme käsiksi vanhoihin lintuhäkkeihin tai oikeastaan mitä niistä oli jäljellä. Koko katto rakennelma oli romahtanut ja Amanda kerää vanhoja kattotiiliä ja minä kannan pois kaikki vanhat lahonneet puupalkit, jotka olivat kattoa kannattaneet, häkkien keskiseinä roikkui melkein ilmassa kiinni vain yhdestä kulmasta... Pylväs, jonka vieressä seison on joskus kannattanut häkkien etuosaa ja siitä on ollut sisäänkäynti portit molemmille puolille... Ennen kuin voimme jatkaa, täytyy Geraldin ensin kaataa muutama puu...

HAPPENED LAST WEEK...TAPAHTUI VIIMEVIIKOLLA...

The whole week the guys were digging the floors to get them all on the same level... 

Koko viikon kaivettiin koneella lattioita, jotta ne saataisiin kaikki samalle tasolle...

Even the kitchen had to go... But where????  That was the question and we moved it to one of the barns where it will stay the whole summer...

Jopa keittiö sai kyytiä...Mutta kysymys olikin minne se menee???  Päätimme muuttaa koko keittiön talliin koko kesäksi...

With the help of the tractor the moving happened quite easily and Jaana dos sorted out the kitchen... You will be surprised how organized we are there...

Traktorin avulla muutto sujui helposti ja Jaana dos järjesteli keittiömme...Ja tulette olemaan yllättyneitä mitä kaikkea me sinne olemme järjestäneet...

The only staircase going up and it is not in very good condition and the floor between the small upper room and the room of the back kitchen is all rotten and still have an old heavy stone chimney that has to be taken out urgently...

Talon ainoat jäljellä olevat portaat ja nekin huonossa kunnossa, kaiken lisäksi yläkerran huoneen ja alakerran apukeittiön välinen lattia on aivan märäntynyt ja sen päällä makaa osa kivistä piippua, jota ei ole koskaan poistettu.  Lattian kunnon vuoksi piippu on poistettava ja nopeasti, ennekuin menee lattian läpi...

This stone wall is actually an old chimney that were never taken down, lots of heavy stones to remove...

Only the fireplace downstairs and the part of the chimney on the top of the roof were demolished... And they made a new fireplace in the corner, which we had taken down earlier...

Tässä osa kivisestä piipusta, jota ei koskaan ole purettu, vain takka alhaalla ja piipunosa katosta ylöspäin oli purettu pois, kun uusi takka oli rakennettu kulmaan, senkin me olemme jo purkaneet pois...

WEEKEND...VIIKONLOPPU...

Days are just passing by so quickly while we are working here... So on the weekends we might work a bit but we also take our friends to visit Dordogne, the area or provence where we are... It has been 10 days from my last post... 

Päivät kuluvat todella nopeasti työn merkeissä...ja viikonlopulla teemme vain hieman töitä ja näytämme ystävillemme tätä kaunista Dordognen lääniä, jossa olemme... Viimeisestä postituksesta onkin kulunut 10 päivää...

The previous weekend we went to a village called Eymet, which is in south Dordogne. The old part of it  has a medieval plaza surrounded by old houses, which has nice restaurants and shops...

Edellisellä viikonlopulla kävimme tutustumassa Eymet nimisessä kylässä, joka sijaitsee etelä Dordognessa. Kylän vanhassa osassa on keskiaikainen plaza viehättävineen rakennuksineen, joissa on ravintoloita ja kauppoja...

Dordogne is a wonderful summer holiday destination... You can easily find different type of accommodations and here you have lots of places to visit...

Dordogne on hyvä kesälomailu päämäärä... Täältä voi helpolla löytää erityyppisiä majoitus mahdollisuuksia ja kaikenlisäksi täällä on paljon nähtävää...

Actually the next day we returned back to Eymet because they had a huge fleamarket and Gerald found Tintin books and I bought some more those old big glass bottles...

Seuraavana päivänä olikin pakko tulla takaisin, sillä kylässä järjestettiin valtava kirpputori, sieltä Gerald löysi Tintti sarjakuvakirjoja ja minä taas löysin muutaman vanhan pullon kokoelmaani...

CLEANING UP THE FLOORS...LATTIOIDEN SIIVOUSTA...

We don't just wipe the dust off the floors... We need to take out old tiles, wooden floors and some floor levels had soil which need to be remove out, that everything will be just on one level through out the whole house...

Emme vain harjaa laittioita... Meidän täytyy purata pois puulattiat, kaivaa ylös vanhat laatat ja liika maa täytyy kaivaa pois, jotta koko talon alankerran lattiat saadaan samalle tasolle....

Team work is needed here, but this little monster will help these guys to remove the soil out of the house much faster than by spade...

Tiimityötä tarvitaan tässä hommassa, vaikka tämä pieni monsteri auttaa näitä kavereita lattian kaivuussa, homma hoituu nopeammin kuin lapioimalla...

Every room have a line  drawn to the wall... The level Zero - 1m... and the we need to know how much the mason needs to fill up the gravel, insulation, the underfloor heating +  the concrete  and floor covering... Here Gerald is checking how much they still need to remove soil before they are on the right depth...

Jokaisen huoneen seinälle on vedetty viiva... Nolla linja - 1 metri ja sitten sen jälkeen pitää ottaa huomioon sorakerros, erityksen paksuus, lattialämmityksen putken + sementti ja sen päälle lattian pinta... Gerald tarkistelee tässä kuinka paljon poikien täytyy vielä kaivaa ennen kuin tarvittava syvyys on saavutettu...

In this room we were lucky, no need to remove anything else the floor depth is just right here...

Puulattia ja sen alla olleet paksut puupalkit poisti talon toinen työtiimi... tässä huoneessa kävi säkä huoneen syvyys on juuri oikea, joten ei tarvi kaivata enää yhtään syvempään...

The future dining area it is an other story, here we are removing old terra-cotta tiles and underneath there is soil that needs to be remove, about a layer of 40 cm...

Tässä meidän tulevassa ruokailutilassa poistamme vanhoja terracotta laattoja maalattian päältä ja tätä pintaa täytyy kaivaa noin 40 cm syvemmälle...

DOG'S LIFE... KOIRAN ELÄMÄÄ...

Amanda arrived with Gizmo and our friends have two dogs as well, so these guys are the only ones who can be lazy around here and then...

Amanda saapui Gizmon kanssa ja meidän ystävillä on kaksi koiraa, joten nämä kaverit ovat ainoat, jotka voivat laiskotella täällä tai sitten...

...The first morning Oscar had quickly learn the French way to not show up at work... He was on STRIKE...nothing unusual in France and who wouldn't love to stay in bed with the Moomins

...Ensimmäisenä aamuna, Oscar otti käytäntöön yleisen ranskalaisen tavan ja aloitti LAKON... Ei mikään harvinainen juttu kun ollaan Ranskassa ja kukapa ei olisi halunnut jäädä sänkyyn Muumien kanssa...

NEW ARRIVALS... UUSIA TULOKKAITA...

Wellu, Oscar and Amanda arrived from Scotland by car on Wednesday evening and next day they were busy at work already....

Wellu, Oscar ja Amanda saapuivat keskiviikko iltana Skotlannista ja heti seuraavana päivänä he olivat työntahdissa...

...This is a new arrival too... The whole down stairs need to be  have a same level by next week for the mason to start to work on the flooring... This machine will help a lot and everybody were so keen to try how it works...

Tässä myös yksi uusin tulokas... Koko alakertaa täytyy kaivaa samalle tasolle ensiviikkoon mennessä, jotta muurari voi aloittaa lattian perustuksen rakentamisen... Tämän koneen avulla hommat sujuu nopeammin ja kaikki olivat kiinnostuneita kokeilemaan konetta...

HUGE OPEN SPACE... VALTAVA AVOIN TILA...

So when everything has been taken down, we have a huge place in the middle of the house....Colin is busy drawing plans for a new staircase and we are planning how we are going to use all this open space... On 3 levels...

Nyt kun kaikki on purettu pois, jäi jäljelle valtava avoin tila keskellä taloa...Colin suunnittelee portaita ja piirtää meille eri mahdollisuuksia ja me suunnittelemme miten tätä koko tilaa voisi käyttää hyväksi... Kolmea eri kerrosta...

If you can remember from a previous post, there used to be a toilet next to the staircase... So the toilet was still there after all the demolishing... Now we needed the get rid of that...

Jos muistat aikaisemmasta postituksesta, portaittein vieressä oli vessa... nyt pytty oli vielä paikallaan kaiken muun purkaustyön jälkeen ja siitä oli päästävä eroon...

We were digging the same time for the cellar... The cellar that we have found on the blue prints????

And under the toilet there was an old septic tank, luckily this toilet was not going in to that anymore, it had a plastic sewer pipe going directly to the outside tank... After lots of digging, shoveling and loads of soil taken out we hit the rock...See Gerald here on the right side with the light yellow colour rock...

Päätimme samalla jatkaa kellarin etsintää...Niin se kellari, jonka olimme nähneet vanhoissa talon piirustuksissa, jonka löysin vintiltä??? Pytyn alta löytyi, sakokaivo (uusi nimitys jonka juuri opin kun käänsin "septic tank" suomeksi. No ei ole ennen tarvinnut kaivella pyttyjen alustoja...)  Onneksi pytty ei ole enää liitetty sakokaivoon vaan siitä meni oma viemäri putki suoraan ulos toiseen tankkiin. Sakokaivo on aika syvä ja niin oletimme, että kellari oli täytetty sen vuoksi... Kuitenkin kaivamisen, lapioinnin ja irtomaan pois viemisen jälkeen osuimme kallioon...Gerald oikealla on pääsemässä käsiksi vaalean keltaiseen kiveen...

One part of the room still had an old floor made out of cobble stones. It was just 5 cm under the existing floor level...

Yhdestä lattian osasta löytyi vanha pienistä kivistä tehty maalattia, joka oli noin 5 fm syydellä nykyisestä lattian pinnasta...

Everybody were digging me included, just notice that I have a "special" Finnish spade...

Jokainen kaivoi, minäkin olin mukana, mutta huomaa, että mulla on kunnon suomalainen pistolapio...

So there was no way to have an inside cellar and we ended up with this heavy and deep old septic tank, hard to remove... So Gerald came up with a good idea... What if we will keep it and we can plant a tree inside... In this space there were plenty light and room for a tree to grow...So now we don't call it a septic tank anymore it is a plant pot... 

Joten meidän piti todeta se, ettei meillä ollut mitään mahdollisuutta saada sisäkellaria ja kaiken lisäksi keskellä oli sakokaivo, joka oli painava ja syvä, sekä hankala poistaa... Sitten Gerald sai älynväläyksen ja ehdotti, että mitä jos pidetään se ja istutetaan siihen puu... Todella tilassa riitti valoa ja korkeutta kasvattaa puu... Elikä nyt emme kutsua kaivoa enää sakokaivoksi vaan se muuttui kukkapurkiksi...

TAKING DOWN MORE WALLS ETC... SEINÄPURKAUSTA JNE...

Most of the wall are built with stone but lighter inside walls are made with wooden sticks and some kind of clay...

Suurin osa seinistä on rakennettu kivillä, mutta kevyemmät sisäseinät ovat tehty puukepeillä ja jonkinlaista savea käyttäen...

Meanwhile the guys were working at the other side of the house taking down many things, I took down this wall that separated the old maid's room from the staircase that goes down to the backside of the kitchen... One day it will be a nice bathroom...

Sillä aikaa kun pojat purkasivat kaikenlaista talon toisella puolella, minä purkasin väliseinän piian makuuhuoneen ja portaitten välistä, jotka johtavat alas keittiön takana olevaan apukeittiöön... Jonain päivänä tästä tilasta tulee kylpyhuone...

Last week this was still our second bathroom, the wall is down and now these guys are planning carefully how to take all the other beams and bit and pieces down, including the main staircase and the staircase to the attic... It is not so easy, because one thing is supporting an other thing...

Viimeviikolla tässä oli vielä meidän toinen kylpyhuoneemme, nyt on jo yksi seinä purettu pois ja nämä kaverit miettivät tarkkaan, missä järjestyksessä mikäkin puretaan, sillä purkaukseen kuluu pääportaat ja vintille menevät portaat ja kaikki osat liittyvät jotenkin toisiinsa...

 When JJ was taking down the wall he found some interesting building material...Corncobs, yes between the two wall layers with the clay and the sticks they used corncobs to fill up the wall....

Kun JJ purkasi väliseinää, löytyi sen sisältä mielenkiintoinen rakennusmateriaali... Maissintähkiä, todellakin kahden seinäpinnan välistä löytyi keppien ja saven lisäksiä maissintähkiä...

You don't see Gerald so often working with the other guys because he has some special work to do, and one of them is running around from a hardware store to a food store to get all the right tools and food...

The tractor has become very handy to all kind of work around here...

Kun Geraldia ei näy muiden kanssa hommissa niin hän juoksentelee rautakaupasta ruokakauppaan, jotta meillä olisi kaikki tarvittavat työkalut ja hyvää ruokaa...

Traktorista on tullut välttämätön työkalu moneen hommaan...
