THE ATTIC... ULLAKKO...

Some of these photos have been posted on the blog before. I just wanted to show again and even to remind myself of all the work I went through while clearing the attic of it's hundreds years of history. 

I spent a month almost everyday in a hot and dusty attic. I didn't care because the attic was telling me a story about this house, that we had just bought. I didn't find treasures as such you might think... I found history and part of this house's soul was fragmented in this attic... I have tried to honour the history of this house and the people who have been living in this house long before us. I carefully took and kept lots of items and documents that I found in the attic. Some of them have already been used as a part of the decoration in our home today....

Näitä kuvia olen ehkä julkaissut näillä sivuilla ennenkin. Halusin vain näyttää muille ja muistuttaa itseänikin kaikesta siitä mitä kävin läpi siivotessani ullakkoa se satavuotisesta historiasta. 

Ullakon siivous kesti melkein kuukauden, jonka aikana vietin pitkiä päiviä ullakon pölyssä ja kuumuudessa. Löysin talon historiaa ja talon sielusta osan joka oli pirstoutuneena ullakon kätkössä...

Olen yrittänyt kunnioittaa tämän talon historiaa ja siellä elänneitä ihmisiä paljon ennen meitä. Olen ottanut talteen paljon tavaroita, esineitä ja dokumentteja, joita löysin ullakon lattialta, laatikoista, nurkista ja säkeistä. Monet näistä ovat päässeet jo osaksi kotimme sisustukseen...

It took me a month to clear the whole attic...

COSY SMALL BEDROOM... PIENI KODIKAS MAKUUHUONE...

Before this bedroom was renovated it always was the most liked room by the people who slept in our house. Now it has white wall and most of the decoration was found in the attic. 

Bed linen and cushion covers were made by me like in the most bedrooms. 

Tämä pieni makuuhuone oli jo ennen remonntia kaikkien siellä vierailleiden suosikki talossamme. Nyt sillä on valkoiseksi maalatut seinät ja melkein kaikki koriste-esineet ovat löydetty ullakolta. 

Sänkyvaatteet ja koristetyynyt ovat minun ompelemia, kuten kaikkialla muissakin makuuhuoneissamme.

The old ladder is from the barn. It has been white washed with paint...

Vanhat tikapuut löytyivät tallista. Ne ovat pesty valkoisella maalilla...

This cotton shall was in the attic among all the other things covered with dust. It has metal embroidery on it...

Tämä metallilangalla brodeerattu puuvilla shaali löytyi ullakolta pölyn ja kaiken muun roinan keskeltä...

This chimney we kept as it was because the plaster was still in quit good condition... The paper on the frame, clay pots and small glass bottles are all from the attic... Even the sea shells in the glass jar...

Tämän takan kipsattu etuosa oli vielä niin hyvässä kunnossa, että päätimme säilyttää sen. Raameissa oleva sanomalehti, saviastiat ja pienet lasipullot ovat kaikki löytyneet ullakolta... Jopa simpukat lasipurkissa...

THE MAIN BEDROOM... OMA MAKUUHUONEEMME...

This is the only bedroom that is down stairs. The large bed 2 x 2 m was built from the recycled wood planks and white washed with paint. The original sealing has been found under the plastered ceiling. The wooden beans and planks has been sand blasted and varnished. 

Tämä on alakerran ainoa makuuhuone.  Leveä 2 x 2 m sänky on rakennettu kierätetyistä lankuista. Sänky sai valkoisen maalipesun. Kipsatun sisäkaton alta löytyi vanhat kattohirret ja laudat, jotka ovat hiekkapuhallettu ja lakattu. 

There was 11 chimneys in this house. Only one double chimney is now in use. This bedroom chimney was totally renovated by the mason. It had a more modern look before, but this brick chimney is the original part from 1770. The wooden beam and the chimney frame carved from white stone is new.

On the top of the chimney, on the ceiling you can notice red bricks with a metal frame. That is the base of the chimney upstairs... We wanted to keep all the original part of this chimney visible....

Talossamme oli 11 takkaa. Vain enää yksi tuplatakka on käytössä. Tämä makuuhuoneen takka on entisöity. Muurarimestari löysi kohensi alkuperäisen 1770 - luvulta olevan takan ulkonäköä. Takan päälle oli myöhemmin rakentettu moderninpi etuosa. Nämä savitiilet takan hormiosassa ovat aidot alkuperäiset. Hirsireunus ja takan alaosa on entisöity vanhan tavan mukaan. Takka ei kuitenkaan ole enää käytössä. Savitiilistä rakennetun hormin yläosassa katonrajassa on punaisista tiilistä ja metalli kehyksestä rakennettu pohja yläkerran takkaa kannattamaan. Halusimme pitää näkyvissä mahdollisimman paljon alkuperäisiä asioita, joita kipsikerrosten takaa löytyi...

Our bed is in the middle of the room facing towards south and the garden. At the back of the bed I hanged a thin cotton curtain and each side of the curtain there is a shorter feather curtain. 

Sänkymme sijatsee huoneen keskiosassa ja suuntana on etelä ja puutarha. sängyn taakse ripustin ohuen puuvillaverhon, jonka molemilla puolilla on höyhenistä valmistetut lyhyemmät verhot. 

The whole world opens to you in the morning while waking up... It's looks like a painting, but actually it's a wallpaper...

Herätessämme aamuisin avautuu koko maailma eteemme... Seinä näyttää maalaukselta, mutta se on tapetti...

PURPLE BEDROOM...LIILA MAKUUHUONE...

The purple grey bedroom is a quest room. We bought all the furniture from the second hand shops and I have cleaned and repaint all of them to give an old patina look. The linen hanging on this shelf comes from the attic. 

Lila makuuhuone on yksi meidän vierashuoneista. Siellä olevat huonekalut ovat ostettu vanhantavaran kaupasta ja olen puhdistanut ne ja maalannut ja antanut niille vanhan patinan näköisen lookin. Metallihyllyyn ripustetut vaatteet ovat ullakolta. 

The double bed got a white wash and silver wax on it. The bedside table comes from the attic. I found it in 3 pieces. It has a lilac paint and white wax on the top of the paint. These old bed are lovely. The only problem is that they were made when people were shorter. Like this bed is only 185 cm long, so tall people can't really sleep on it... 

Tämä parisänky sai valkoisen maalipesun ja hopeanvärisen vahan sen päälle. Yöpöytä sängyn vierellä on löydetty ullakolta kolmessa eri kappaleessa, entisoinnin jälkeen maalasin sen liilan väriseksi ja maalin päälle tuli valkoinen patinavaha. Nämä vanhat parisängyt ovat ihania. Niissä on vain yksi vika. Ne ovat ajalta jolloin ihmiset olivat lyhyempiä ja nykyään jopa ranskalaiset ovat niin paljon pitempiä. Sänky on vain 185 pitkä. Vieraat tähän huoneeseen valitaan pituuden mukaan. 

Every bedroom in this house had a wash basin before the renovation. This is the only bedroom that still have the wash basin with modern tap on the old repainted furniture. 

Talon jokaisessa makuuhuoneessa oli lavuaari ennen remonttia. Nyt tämä huone on ainoa, johon asensimme lavuaarin ja modernin hanan takaisin remontin aikana. Lavuaari on asennettu vanhan patinoidun huonekalun päälle.

I found this all corset among the other old clothes and linen in the attic... It belonged to somebody who lived in this house longtime ago...

Löysin tämän korsetin ullakolta muiden vanhojen vaatteiden ja liinavaatteiden kanssa. Korsetti on kuullunut aikoinaan jollekin talon asukkaalle...
