THE STONE WALL... KIVIMUURI...

Since last summer we have been renovating the old stone walls... This spring it was the turn of the big arch to be renovated... It used to be the main entrance to the courtyard long time ago, before the road was built to the other side of the property... Along this wall was the original route from Montagnac village to the Villablard that dates from 11th century...

Viime kesänä alkoi kivimuurien entisöinti... Tänä keväänä oli suuren kaariportin vuoro... Tämä portti toimi alkujaan pääsisäänkäyntinä sisäpihaan, ennenkuin tilan toiselle puolelle rakennettiin tie... tämä kivisen muurin reunalla kulki ensimmäinen tie Montagnacin kylästä Villablerdiin ja se on alkuperäisin jo 1100 -luvulta...

In 1999 the big storm took down a very old linden tree in the middle of the yard... The tree felt on the side of the arch damaging the wall on the side of the arch... Then the crack it was repaired just with some cement and the wall stayed skew...On the bottom part of the arch some of the bigger stones were damage by the time...

Gerald numbered all the big stones in the arch and built a wooden platform to hold the arch, before taking loose any big stones...

Gerald numeroi kaikki suuret kivet kaariholvissa ja kaaren alaosaa tuettiin puusta rakennetulla kaarituella ennen kuin suuria kiviä otettiin irti kaariportista...

After the arch stones were taken down one by one, they were placed on the ground in the numbered order... Now it was the turn to take down the part of the wall that was skew...

Left on the ground the arch stones... And in the front of the tractor the part of the wall that was rebuilt straight...

Vasemmalla maassa kaariholven kivet...

The mason know what to do... Here he is placing the "key" stone that holds the arch...

On the top of the arch the mason built a "genouise" with roof tiles...

Kaaren päälle muurataan kattotiilistä genoise niminen osa...

The hundreds years old wall was hollow in this part and it has to be demolished before renovating the whole long wall... Gerald found snakes nests in it with eggs, and ideal warm place for the snake aggs to hatch...

The wall was built so long time ago that the only building material was sand and clay...

Big wall, big tools...

Valtava muuri, valtavat työkalut...

On the top of the wall the mason enforced the wall with metal pieces and concrete...

Muurin pääliosa vahvistettiin metallilla ja betonilla...

The "genoise is the part which is made by roof tiles between the wall and the top of the wall...

And the work carries on... Photo of this morning...

Ja työt jatkuu... Kuva otettu tänään aamulla...
